Welcome to the Platformer where we talk about games in an extremely amateur but fun way! This post is in regards to Sony’s Playstation Now service which had an update and price drop last week and you the reader will experience it through my field of view.

I turn on my Playstation 4, I’m greeted by the usual lovely chime but, something is different. On the home screen is an icon I’ve seen before with some new faces: a bearded Kratos from God of War 4 and the devilishly handsome Nathan Drake from Uncharted 4. This was Playstation Now offering its new games along with a price drop and a 7-day free trial. It’s now 3 days later and I can no longer play online (something I’ve never cared for anyway) however now me, and more importantly my girlfriend, now have hundreds of games at our immediate disposal.

I’ve been wary of game streaming for a while as it’s a lovely idea in concept! But the execution has always been severely lacking, in addition to the poor library of games usually on offer. However, I decided to try Playstation Now (7-day free trial strikes again the bastard) to my surprise the games on offer were good?! Why is God of War 4 here, surely it’s still selling volumes? I scrolled through the list of games and found title after title that had interested in the past but I’ve never bothered to pick up and now…here they were.

This is all great but I could use a copy of Steep as a frisbee and say I’ve played it, so how was the streaming experience? One word, seamless. I would start streaming and I would just start playing. ( I will say I live in London with 20 mega whatever of speed). I tested it on games like Steep, Sniper Elite V4, God of War, GTA V and although not visually the best, it still offered an enjoyable experience. My girlfriend loved that she had all these games on a console she knows and didn’t have to mess around with updates and downloads. For someone just starting to get into gaming (You can check out our series here), it’s perfect no commitments with hundreds of games, including all the Lego games!

The final incentive for me was…the price. Now about the same price as PS+ a service I pay for and barely use and Netflix I kind of don’t need to pay for since my girlfriend and I just share the same account. So just if I cancel both I can keep my PS Now very easily. Below are some price details.

£8.99 (was £12.99)

Quarterly: £22.99

Yearly: £49.99 (was £84.99)

I would definitely recommend the trial and perhaps like me, you’ll be taken by surprise, so much so that I’ve cancelled my PS+ subscription as PS Now is quite cheap and actually have games I want to play in addition to not filling up my hard drive.
